Avoiding a Cause of Tinnitus---Stress and Anxiety
Health problems are not the only things which can trigger a bout of tinnitus. Stress, rather chronic stress has also been known to both trigger and worsen existing tinnitus.
Tinnitus is also known a ringing of the ears. It is the perception of sound coming from one or both ears or inside the head which no one else can hear because it has no external source. It can either be just a subtle sound or piercing in intensity.While many people are aware of the fact that medical problems can and do trigger tinnitus episodes, what may not be well known is that even emotional states such as stress and anxiety can make one’s ears ring. Why this is so, medical experts cannot yet properly explain. They theorize that it has something to do with the metabolic changes that occur when one is under pressure and stressed.What makes stress such a dreaded trigger of tinnitus is that it can start off what is known as a tinnitus cycle. When one is stressed it triggers ringing ears which characterizes tinnitus. When the ringing in the ears start, it only makes a person feel more stressed, making the tinnitus even worse.Luckily, there are a few things we can do to avoid this tinnitus-stress cycle. Physical exercise is not only a great way to relieve stress but will also strengthen the body and its immune system against infection and disease.Engaging in a relaxing and enjoyable past time or hobby is a good way to get your mind off pressing concerns so that it is refreshed and ready to tackle these concerns when one returns to it.Robert Ludlum in his Jason Bourne novels once said that rest is a weapon. So it is against stress. When we get enough rest, our minds are better prepared to deal with stress and stressful situations.
